Kiwanis Club of Augusta, GA

Kiwanis is a worldwide service organization appealing to persons who have the desire to become personally involved in making their communities better places to live. As a group, these persons achieve what individuals cannot do alone.

The name Kiwanis is a coined word taken from the language of the Otchipew Indian tribe, which lived in the area where Kiwanis was founded. The original phrase, "Nunc Kee-wanis" meant "we have a good time" or "we make a noise."

Working together, Kiwanians voluntarily share in the challenge of community improvement and leadership, assuming personal responsibility for humanitarian and civic projects that public authorities are not prepared to or able to perform. These projects are dominantly local in nature. They include such activities as assistance to youth and the aging, conservation of natural resources, development of community facilities and creation of international understanding and goodwill. Whatever their goals may be, Kiwanians are motivated by a common desire to serve and to achieve an appreciation of good fellowship.

Adopted in 1920, "We Build" is the motto under which Kiwanis has advanced and become widely known throughout these years.

The Kiwanis Club of Augusta, a member of the Georgia District of Kiwanis, was chartered on March 10, 1920.

History:

The Georgia District of Kiwanis was established in the Fall of 1918 when there was only one club in the state--The Kiwanis Club of Atlanta with 50 members....(read more)

Membership:The Kiwanis Club of Augusta seeks to develop and maintain a diverse membership of business, professional and civic leaders from throughout the Augusta community. Its target member is usually someone known and recognized for his or her leadership role in the upper levels of business, professional or civic activities.

While there are no set limits on the number of members from a profession or organization, it is believed that our club is better served if it does not have a disproportionate number of members from one profession or organization.

The Membership Committee is composed of a cross section of the Club membership. To learn more about Kiwanis and membership in Kiwanis clubs, check out the following information:
